This week we had 2 mother daughter pairs playing for our Ladies 6s (who won 4-3 against Ipswich Ladies 5 - coming back from 0-3 just after half time!)

Hattie and Emma are both 12, which means they have the opportunity to get a taste of adult hockey early, alongside their mums, Jen & Sally, as part of our development team.

Whilst we’re really proud of the level of hockey that we’re able to offer - all the way up to the premier division! What we’re most proud of is the family friendly, inclusive hockey that we’re able to offer to everyone.

Match Report:
Bury St Edmunds 6s (Development) vs Ipswich 5
Final score: 4-3 (Win!)
Player of the Match: Hattie Prentice

Bury arrived at Tuddenham Road with a fresh team, still high off of last weeks win against Sudbury.

Michelle May-Jones returned to the pitch for the first time in more than 30 years while Emma Kretzmann was ready for her first adult hockey game. Goalie Lara de Jongh was also returning to hockey after a lengthy gap but it didn’t show and she held her nerve throughout. With only 1 sub on the bench Bury knew they were going to have to work as a team to keep energy levels high - and that’s exactly what they did!

We won’t talk much about the first half, Ipswich squeezed through some small gaps in Burys defence to end the half 2-0 up. Another good run saw them increase their lead to 3-0 only a few minutes into the second half.

At this point however, Bury’s calm, positive approach started to pay off & forward Hattie Prentice snuck her way through Ipswich’s defence to get Bury on the score board. Some formation changes in Bury’s defence and midfield allowed the defence to hold strong while Hattie got 2 more balls into the back of net, well set up by Hannah Oliver, Emma Kretzmann and Georgina Garner.

Bury continued to dominate possession, utilising Sally Prentice, Michelle May-Jones & Adele Newberry at the back to switch the ball & tire the Ipswich midfielders.
A final push from Becci Mayers and Oi-Wa Whitmore in midfield saw Bury enter the opposing D with 2 minutes to go. Ipswich’s defence fought back but Emily Denney tackled & passed the ball back into the centre of the D where Jen Kretzmann executed a mid air hit to finish the job and win Bury the game!
