So, from Saturday January 11th, January until the end of the season after match teas will be served at the Culford Club, a short walking distance from the Culford Gates.
We’re hoping this will give us more flexibility, independence and help create a better club atmosphere. The Culford Club has plenty of space, a pool table, dart boards and a fully stocked bar.
It does mean a short walk from the hockey and sports centre car parks, out of the school grounds, and across the road to get there.
We’ll need club members from each team to help run the bar, serve food and clean up on match days. Julie Dunger has very kindly offered to co-ordinate and act as lead – you will hear more from her shortly!
This is a great opportunity to build the social element of the club and build links with the local community, village and the Culford Club. To make it work we’ll all need to chip and help but we’re sure that, with everyone’s support, it will be well worth it.
We’ve answered a few questions below and looking forward to seeing you at the Culford Club in the New Year.
Qu: How can I help?
We’ll need BSEHC members to help run the bar. Full training will be provided. If you’d like to help, then please contact Julie Dunger on Pitchero before you get volunteered!!!
Qu: Do I have to be a member of the Culford Club?
No - All BSEHC team captains, bar staff and committee members will become members of the Culford Club. Other players can either join themselves at a cost of £5 or just use the Club on match days as guests.
Qu: Where do I park?
Parking is extremely limited. We should avoid parking on the road outside the Culford Club. Before matches, players should park their cars in the school as normal and walk across the road to the Culford Club for their tea.
The school will lock the barriers at 7:30 on Saturdays so it is essential that you leave the school car parks before then.
Qu: Are there changing rooms at the Culford Club?
No – players should use the school changing rooms and showers as usual, both before and after matches.
Qu: What times will the Culford Club open and close?
The Culford Club will be open to hockey players and supporters from 11:30 am to 19:00 on Saturday league match days.
Qu: What food will be served?
In the short term, to keep things simple, we will continue serving pizzas.
If there is demand and costs are reasonable then we could serve other cold food –
but we will need people to do this. So, if you want something different you could be asked to prepare it! The Culford Club has no kitchen or cooking facilities, and we’ll need to follow food hygiene requirements
Qu: Can I get a tea or coffee?
Tea/Coffee/Squash – will be provided by the HC for players, Umpires, Managers (like in Paddy & Scotts)
If supporters / parents wish for a tea or coffee their will be a donations tin on the table with a note on it explaining this
Qu: Who will run the bar?
The Culford Club will be run by BSEHC members on match days.
The Culford Club will train BSEHC members to be authorised bar staff. It is essential
we have enough people to do this. All volunteers welcome, Julie will be press ganging people into doing their turn as required!!
Qu: What about washing up, cleaning and waste disposal?
BSEHC are responsible for making sure we leave the Culford Club as we find it, so that means cleaning and washing up. There are sufficient waste bins to dispose of all those pizza boxes!
Qu: Will the BSEHC benefit from bar takings
Bar takings and profits will go to the Culford Club to help cover the costs of running, maintaining and refurbishing the Culford Club and keeping the bar stocked.
Qu: Are children allowed at the Culford Club?
On match days players aged under 18 & children associated with players/the club are allowed.
