Bury 4 renewed their relegation battle by taking on their much vaunted club rivals Bury 3, who were featuring a number of guest players. Undaunted and inspired by a rousing pre match team talk Bury 4 shocked the sizable crowd by taking an early lead courtesy of Rob Johnson. Bury 3 were clearly shocked by this and rallied to score twice courtesy of Felix Jones to lead 2-1 at half time.
Bury 4 began the second half with intent and played some lovely flowing simple hockey and deservedly drew level via a rasping strike by Phil Gibbs. Enraged by the audacity of their lowly rivals Bury 3 threw everything at Bury 4's rear-guard. However, Lomas, Gospel, Miller and Allen stood firm. Just as Bury 4 thought they had secured a precious point in their survival, quest a moment of indecision waiting for a whistle that never came allowed Bury 3 to steal a somewhat undeserved victory as Whiting dinked the ball past a despairing Etherington.
